Stonington Free Library just made a huge addition to our digital offerings! Welcome Kanopy! Kanopy is a streaming service, similar to Netflix, that is available for free without ads. Exclusively partnering with libraries and universities, Kanopy’s mission is to “ensure that everyone has access to enriching films that bridge cultural boundaries, spark discussion, and expand worldviews.” With over 30,000 titles available there is something for everyone! Best known for its selection of award winning documentaries and independent films, Kanopy also provides stories and shows for children with Kanopy Kids, and college-course level educational videos with The Great Courses.
All you need to sign up for Kanopy is your Stonington Free Library card number & PIN, an email address, and a device that connects to the internet. Signing up for Kanopy is very similar to many other services and you will need a valid email address to complete the set-up process. One of the most impressive features is that you can access Kanopy almost everywhere! You can watch on your phone (Apple or Android), tablet, laptop, and even your smart TV using these (Apple TV and Airplay, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung Smart TV, Roku, Telstra TV, & Chromecast). Each month you will start with 5 play credits. Each credit allows you to view a film as many times as you want within a 72 hour period. In addition to the 5 play credits, you have access to Kanopy Kids and The Great Courses! With Kanopy Kids your child has access to a “diverse selection of educational and entertaining content that ranges across Movies, TV Series, Animated Storybooks, Live Action, and Animated favorites.” The Great Courses offers a staggering number of classes taught by experts in topics as diverse as; cooking, algebra, French, yoga, public speaking, and world history!
