Make an Impact Starting April 1st – Library Giving Day
Library Giving Month kicks off on April 1 with Library Giving Day, a terrific opportunity to support your local library. Please click here to support SFL with a one-time gift or a monthly recurring donation. Every dollar donated supports the library’s programs and services throughout greater Stonington.
Celebrate National Library Week at Stonington Free Library!
Stonington Free Library is proud to be open seven days a week, welcoming thousands of patrons in search of great books, the latest news, author talks, and community activities. From entertaining toddlers at storytime to helping seniors navigate technology, we strive to offer something for everyone. Our book clubs bring together amateur chefs and avid readers, while our SFL at Your Door program ensures library access for all. We even set aside time for board games in the main reading room! While we provide these services year-round, there’s one week in April that’s especially meaningful.
National Library Week (April 6-12, 2025) is a time-honored celebration that began in 1957, founded on the idea that encouraging reading leads to greater library support and use. At SFL, we use this special week to show appreciation for our patrons with fun events, crafts, and engaging programs.
Join us for a variety of exciting activities! Drop in with your toddler for a special storytime with therapy dog Olive, pick up a Take & Make or Kids’ Grab & Go project kit, or explore a new book or social club. Try your hand at bookbinding with Shuttle Press & Bindery, join our April Library Love Reading Challenge, or enjoy coffee and conversation at the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. Take a chance on a new read with the Wheel of Genres, bring home an original mini art print from The Petal Pushers art vending machine, or browse the latest exhibit in the SFL Stairwell Gallery. You can even go on a photo scavenger hunt or pin your favorite book title on our Giving Tree. While you are here, be sure to update your library card at the front desk or apply online.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, we can’t wait to see you at the library for this special week!
