Interlibrary Loan, or ILL, is a service librarians use to help patrons get materials that are not already part of our collection. Even large libraries can’t buy every book, and when a patron wants something that is not on our shelves and is more than a year old we turn to interlibrary loan to borrow it from another library in the state. That way we can get books into the hands of people who want to read them. This service is also how we get multiple copies of the same book for several local private book clubs, as well as those organized in partnership with the Stonington Free Library occurring monthly at Human Services, StoneRidge, and Masonicare.
You are always welcome to request an item through interlibrary loan in person, by phone, or by email – but recently we have added a new way. There is now an Interlibrary Loan form on our website to make it that much easier for you to request items you’d like to read, watch, or listen to. Check it out today!
