In keeping with its tradition, Stonington Garden Club recently sponsored five books for the library’s collection. Over many years, the garden club has remembered its late members by sponsoring the purchase of new gardening books for Stonington Free Library. The memorial titles feature a book plate with the garden club logo and the name of the club member in whose memory the book has been purchased. We are grateful that Stonington Garden Club honors its members in this way.
The library worked with garden club members Laura Metzger, Kirby Williams, and Deb Dodds on the latest book sponsorship in memory of Stonington Garden Club members who passed away during 2020 and 2021. Library staff member Ivy Burns and Master Gardener Noreen Kepple collaborated to find titles that complement the library’s current collection of gardening books.
The five new books that we recently added to the collection cover timely practices such as attracting pollinators and working with nature. In this way beloved garden club members Rhona Heyl, Marguerite Moore, Kystyna Celichowska, Martha Calmar, and Anne Bentz help us look to the future, because as Audrey Hepburn said, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”
