DOUBLE YOUR DONATION!

Stonington Free Library Capital Campaign 2020

Campaign to Update and Fund a Library for the 21st Century

Stonington, Conn. (September 1, 2020) – The Stonington Free Library (SFL) is excited to announce a MATCHING CHALLENGE for our recently launched Capital Campaign.  A group of library supporters have banded together to match donations up to $75,000!  For every dollar donated by other library supporters, this group will match it! This matching challenge was inspired by a gift from Ned York in honor of his mother, Rose York.  Mr. York wrote, “I am so very, very pleased to be able to financially help the Library and, at the same time, to honour my mother’s contribution to the organization that she dearly loved!”.

Rose York’s long relationship with SFL began as the Librarian, she then joined the Board of Trustees and capped off her service as President from 1987-1995. Rose oversaw a major addition to the Library, funded partly through a gift from the Wimpfheimer family in memory of Jocko Wimpfheimer and partly through a very successful capital campaign of which she was the leading light.

The 2020 Capital Campaign will support a plan that incorporates three linked initiatives: Increase Floor Space and Improve Accessibility, Refurbish and Upgrade Interior, and Build Financial Sustainability.

To date, the Capital Campaign 2020 has received a total of $1,600,000 in pledges from more than 100 leadership donors, including the Town of Stonington and a State Library Construction Grant. This puts the Campaign at almost 90% of our $1.8MM goal. Please join the entire community, from river to river and beyond, to help us reach our goal and make this plan a reality.

Our story began with the donation of just a single dime.  Please help us write the next chapter. For more information about the Stonington Free Library, including information about how to donate to the Capital Campaign, visit https://www.stoningtonfreelibrary.org/capital-campaign-2020/
