Stonington Free Library Breaks Ground
LIBRARY’S VISION OF INCREASED ACCESS FOR ALL
TAKES A STEP CLOSER TO REALITY
Stonington, Conn. (November 3, 2019) – The Stonington Free Library is pleased to announce that the ground has been broken on construction of its new addition. The celebration of this milestone was attended by Library staff and trustees, elected officials and donors.
This addition, the first step in the Library’s plan to improve access to Library services for all members of the community, focuses on increasing physical accessibility to all parts of the existing Library. It includes an ADA compliant ramp, entrance, elevator and restrooms on both levels. We expect construction of the addition to last approximately six months, after which the refurbishment and renovation of the interior is expected to begin.
This building project is both modest in scope and high impact in its effect. While the addition comprises only 725sf of new space, its completion will ultimately free up an additional 525sf of floor space within the existing building, for a total of 1250sf of new usable space.
