EXHIBITION
The Stonington Free Library invites local artists AGES 6 TO ADULT to submit works on paper depicting the Stonington Free Library or Wadawanuck Square for our first LOVE WHERE YOU READ exhibit. Works chosen will be displayed in the library gallery from October 1, 2023 – December 30, 2023. The exhibition includes awards with a solo show opportunity for the 1st place artist ages 15 & up. Entries may be dropped off in-person September 25 – 28, 2023 at the Stonington Free Library, 20 High Street, Stonington, CT 06378.
GOAL
LOVE WHERE YOU READ will be an opportunity to promote local art (amateur and professional) while showcasing the spaces and resources available at the Stonington Free Library for artists, writers, creators and readers making it a center for activities and community. Some of the images chosen may be featured on notecards, calendars or merchandise that will benefit the programs and mission at SFL which is to enrich lives and build community by bringing information, ideas and people together.
JURORS
Selections will be made by the friendly staff at SFL. The selection process will be a blind selection with “jurors” submitting via ballot. Any items not selected will be available for pick-up after Oct. 1st.
ELIGIBILITY
This contest/exhibition is open to artists AGES 6 TO ADULT. Artists can submit up to 2 works. Submitted works must be no larger than 11”x17”. All works must be on paper or flat surface in order to fit in existing pre-matted frames. If you’d like to submit digital works, email them to millie@stoningtonfreelibrary.org with the subject line: SFL LOVE WHERE YOU READ, [Artist’s Name], Image Size: _____. Any digital images selected will be printed at the size indicated and displayed in frames. A total of 14 images will be selected for the exhibit. The following information is required for submission: 1.Name, address, telephone, e-mail. Up to 2 works total may be submitted. Images submitted digitally must be JPEG and sent to millie@stoningtonfreelibrary.org with the subject line: SFL LOVE WHERE YOU READ, [Artist’s Name], image size: _____
AWARDS
(Ages 6-14) First/Second/Third Place: Art Kit with prize ribbon
(Ages 15+) First Place: Solo Show at SFL & $50 prize| Second place: SFL Tote Bag with goodies | Third place: SFL T-shirt, SFL sticker and Art Kit
All selected artists will receive a copy of the calendar or postcard(s) created from the exhibition.

October 1-December 31: LOVE WHERE YOU READ EXHIBIT on display
October 2-6: Pick up of rejected works
January 2: Pick up party! Artworks and prizes will be ready for pick-up. Solo artist show will be ready for viewing.

PERMISSION AND COPYRIGHT
By submitting an entry, the Artist grants permission for the Stonington Free Library to use the accepted image on its website at SFL for brochures, promotional materials, merchandise and publicity about the exhibition and library, both physical and virtual. Every effort will be made to maintain quality true to the submitted image, recognizing that the print or electronic medium may affect how the viewer receives the image. Artist will be given attribution for the work. The Artist hereby certifies that he or she holds the copyright for this material and the copyright remains with said Artist. SFL will display a notice that material must not be “downloaded” or copied, but will not be held responsible if artwork is copied. By participating, the Artist acknowledges and understands the above provisions and has read and agreed with the provisions set by the contest.
