Join marine artist Russ Kramer for a presentation of his dynamic oil paintings, depicting historic America’s Cup races and other yachting scenes. The discussion focuses on the stories behind the paintings, anecdotes about the famous boats and crews, plus a behind-the-scenes look at the complicated process Russ employs in developing the paintings – his inspirations, research and methods. Several of his works will be on display. 35-40 mins. w/ Q&A
About the Artist: Today, Russ Kramer is widely regarded to be among the world’s leading marine artists. His large-scale studio paintings create ‘first-hand’ experiences for the viewer, putting you right on board during some of history’s greatest yacht races or turn-of-the-century luxury vessels. A sense of the dramatic moment, combined with meticulous research and attention to detail, have found considerable appeal and sell quickly into private and corporate collections. His works are unique and immediately recognizable, combining narrative, historical, figurative and maritime disciplines. Russ is a Fellow and past President of the 500-member American Society of Marine Artists and a member of the New York Yacht Club. Prior to turning to painting full-time in 2006, Russ spend three decades as a graphic designer, illustrator, journalist and creative executive. Russ lives and works in Mystic, CT, where his studio and gallery on West Main Street welcome guests year round.
