Book Discussion with Tom Verde
March 27 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join religion journalist Tom Verde on Friday, March 17 from 11-12:30 at the Stonington Free Library for a discussion of the NYT bestseller, Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person’s Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds by John Fugelsang. This engaging book addresses the ways in which extremists have hijacked the Christian faith for political purposes and explores how to regain control of the narrative.
Uniquely qualified—the son of a monk and a nun who both left their orders to marry—Fugelsang is a comedian by trade and injects humor into his thesis, which somehow works. Yet despite the light tone, he has done his homework and is prepared to respond to criticism with biblical knowledge gained from his upbringing and his own studies.
Pawcatuck resident Tom Verde has written about religion for The New York Times, National Public Radio, Religion News Service, and Religion Unplugged. Verde will lead the discussion. Copies of the book are available at Bank Square Books in Mystic or online. You can also check your local library for a copy of the book. Read the book in advance and come ready to explore this timely topic.
