SUMMARY:Sunday Evening Lecture - Ben Coes - "Bloody Sunday" at La Grua
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss Ben Coes on Sunday\, September 9\, at 5:00 in the La Grua Center. A NYTimes best-selling author\, Ben has been likened to John le Carre and Tom Clancy. He will talk about his latest novel Bloody Sunday\, an international espionage thriller\, a genre he has re-defined. Fans are hooked on Dewey Andreas – Delta Force\, CIA spy\, and Tier-One NOC covert operative – who appears in his thrillers to solve frighteningly realistic international incidents. Coes calls his plots reality-based that draw from completely possible scenarios that could occur\, often confidentially\, in the U.S. government\, and some of his characters are straight from the headlines. \nCoes brings one-of-a-kind knowledge to the genre of political espionage. A former special forces operative himself\, he worked at the White House under President Ronald Reagan and for President George H.W. Bush during the Gulf War. Coes has also been a speech writer for U.S. Secretary of Energy James P. Watkins and for international financier T. Boone Pickens. Coes’ fans include Mitt Romney for whom he served as campaign manager when he was running for governor of Massachusetts. \nParking for the La Grua Center is in the main lot of Stonington Commons 32 Water St.\, Stonington. This event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Sunday Evening Lecture — Alex Prud'homme
DESCRIPTION:Join us Sunday\, October 8th at 5 pm. Alex Prud’homme\, great nephew of Julia Child\, discusses his new book “The French Chef in America.” \nMr. Prud’homme recounts the myriad ways in which Child profoundly shaped how we eat today. We see her dealing with difficult colleagues and the challenges of fame\, ultimately using her newfound celebrity to create what would become a totally new type of food television. Every bit as entertaining\, inspiring\, and delectable as My Life in France\, The French Chef in America uncovers Julia Child beyond her “French chef” persona and reveals her second act to have been as groundbreaking and adventurous as her first. \nThe event will take place at the La Grua Center\, 32 Water St.\, Stonington.
