SUMMARY:Ed Tucchio on Display in the SFL Stairwell Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The current exhibit features the work of Edward Tucchio. He is a graduate of the Hartford Art School\, where he earned degrees in Graphic Design and Education. Ed taught art at Wheeler High School for 35 years before retiring in 2004. \nAlongside his teaching career\, Ed spent much of his free time working in many areas of art and graphic design. His work has included sign painting\, architectural renderings\, a series of pen-and-ink drawings and prints for the town of North Stonington\, marine oil painting\, and writing and illustrating children’s books. \nEd has been married to his wife\, Patricia\, for 57 years\, and they have two daughters\, both of whom are teachers. \nWhen he is not in his studio\, Ed can often be found planning and working on additions to their home on Cove Road—a project that has evolved over nearly five decades. Maintenance\, cutting wood\, and repairing things in the workshop are simply part of his daily rhythm. \nWe are proud to have Ed as an exhibiting artist in the SFL Stairwell Gallery. You can also see the beautiful work he did on our Lobster Trap Buoy on display in the Main Reading Area.

DESCRIPTION:Experience the joy of childhood adventures! \nJoin us for a retrospective exhibition celebrating the beloved Flat Stanley book series by local author Jeff Brown. Jeff and his family considered Stonington Borough their home away from home\, and many of Flat Stanley’s adventures were inspired by the seaside. \n\n\nDiscover the story behind this iconic series and learn how Jeff Brown inspired generations of young readers through literacy\, curiosity\, and cultural exploration. \n\n\n\nBooks are available for check out and kids of all ages are welcome to join the fun by coloring and cutting out their own Flat Stanley. This fun activity will be available in the children’s room until July 31. \nThe exhibit will be open during business hours. \nOpening reception will take place on July 2 at 5:30. Gather in the stairwell or take the elevator down to the children’s room. All are welcome!

DESCRIPTION:In this mixed-media project\, students will explore texture\, color\, pattern\, and line while creating a striking ocean-inspired whale artwork. Using acrylic paint and sponges\, students will learn how to blend and layer colors to create a textured underwater background. They will then transfer a whale image onto their artwork and use white acrylic markers to add creative patterns\, lines\, and details inspired by the unique markings found in nature. \nThrough this project\, students will strengthen their understanding of contrast\, composition\, texture\, and pattern design while developing fine motor skills\, creativity\, and confidence in making artistic choices. The finished piece combines painting\, drawing\, and design techniques to create a bold and imaginative work of art. \nThis hands on art program is great for kids 9-12. \nReserve your spot HERE.
