This year we had 19 submissions for 14 spots and selected 17 pieces to display. It was a challenge. We loved seeing all the wonderfully creative interpretations of Stonington Free Library and hope that the artists had as much fun as we did! Below are … READ MORE about And the Winners Are…
We have an active calendar of events for all ages. Be sure to check our Events Calendar for our latest offerings.
READING PROGRAMS FOR KIDS & TEENS
The fundamental keys for the development of lifelong learners are reading aloud and reading for enjoyment. Building reading fluency in young children requires repeated oral reading and modelling what a fluent reader sounds like. When you read to your child you are setting an example. For that reason, we offer year round reading programs and challenges for all ages.

VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER HOURS
Students in Grades 7-10 who need community service hours but have a busy schedule can now submit book reviews to earn volunteer time.
Students will get two hours of community service per review up to 10 hours (5 reviews total).
Write a review about a book/graphic novel that you have read. The review must be at least 100 words, no more than 250. Do not plagiarize. Sentences need to be well thought out and more than “I liked/didn’t like this book.” No spoilers, please!
Click the button below to fill out and submit a review. After it is reviewed, the librarian will contact you. Please note this will take a few days!
KIDS STORY TIME
Our Story Times employ techniques aimed at developing Early Literacy skills and enabling caregivers to reinforce the same skills at home. We are avid proponents of reading aloud to children, long past the time they have learned to read themselves. This improves listening skills, attention span, fluency, increases vocabulary and develops a love for story. These are all skills necessary for a successful school transition.
TECHNOLOGY
We have a sizable collection of ebooks, downloadable audio books, books on CD and PlayAway Views which offer portable audiovisual stories. We have AWE Early Learning Stations which offer educational programming for ages 2 - 12 and PC computers for use by students age 12-18
