The Children's Room is now set up with four new kid-friendly computers: two for ages 1 to 6 (Preschool-Kindergarten) & two for ages 6 to 12 (Kindergarten-Fifth Grade). The preschool computers themselves have child-appropriate personalities: one is shaped like a cat, the other like a dog.

Our new preschool computers are each equiped with a Kid Friendly Keyboard, designed just for kids between the ages 2 to 10. KidzMouse Keys™ works for small children by simplifying the keyboard, rounding the tops of keys, and shortening the overall span from the bottom to the top of the Keys. It is safe and fun to use. KidzMouse Keys has built in software to help little kids avoid inadvertently getting run-on letters when they're hunting for a key (cattttttttttttttttt). Instead, it sends only one character per key press.
Each preschool computer also has a cute Optical Mouse, designed just for kids between the ages of 2 to 10. Easy to use, small, and comfortable for little hands, KidzMouse® works the way a child's hand works. A squeeze rather than a tap enables the child to click.
Our new grade-school computers are each equipped with a KidBoard, a great starter keyboard for ages 6 to 13. These standard-sized keyboards have color-coded keys to aid new typers in learning the location of letters, numbers, punctuation marks, and commands.

All the computers are set up with the Kid-Easy Operating System, allowing for parent-free computing. This system uses the highest level of children's Internet security. Children have access only to online and CD learning programs and games set for their age group.

From home, you can check out these Top Web Sites for Kids or go to Online Games on the library website. Links to hundreds of online games are provided, appropriate for infants & toddlers, preschoolers & Kindergarteners, and grade school kids.

These computers also have learning programs and games that run from the computer or a CD.

Programs for preschoolers include: Reader Rabbit Reading (Ages 4-6), Reader Rabbit Math (Ages 4-6), My First Cd-ROM (Toddlers), Kid Pix (Ages 4 & up), and Curious George Reads, Writes, & Spells (Ages 4-6).

Programs for grade-school kids include: Reader Rabbit First Grade, Reader Rabbit Second Grade, Garfield (Grade 1), Kid Pix (Ages 4 & up), and The Wizard of Oz Interactive Stories.
